In this article you'll learn about Taboola's campaign rejection reasons and how to amend your ads to conform to our policies.
Every campaign (or advertisement) that runs on the Taboola network must be reviewed by our content review team. If the campaign cannot run on the network, you will see “Rejected” as the campaign status. This means it is not compliant with our Advertising Policies. You can learn more on how to check the status of your campaign here.
This article will review the possible reasons for a campaign rejection. You can learn more here about how to resubmit a campaign for review after you have fixed the issue.
Campaign Rejection Reasons
Thumbnail is not aligned with the campaign safety level
This means that the thumbnail (includes GIF’s and video stills) of your ad may not align with the current campaign quality rating.
How to Fix This
Three options
- Put the ads in a new campaign (recommended by Taboola)
- Fix the ads and resubmit them to the same campaign
- Change the existing campaign safety rating (not recommended)
The first option is to create a separate campaign for the lower safety ads. Find out how to submit a campaign here (recommended by Taboola).
Alternatively, you can amend the ads to match the safety of the campaign. To do this consult our campaign safety rating guidelines to better understand our safety ratings.
Additionally, you can reach out to your Account Manager or to support@taboola.com to request a change to the safety rating of the existing campaign. Keep in mind that this may restrict how the campaign scales on the network and we don’t recommend it for this reason.
Some common explanations why campaign ads get rejected for this reason include:
- Using gimmicky components (i.e. highlighted area, x-rays, fast gifs, drawn circles
- Using image/s of an unflattering closeup of a body part without defects on skin.
- Using bizarre or weird images
- Using images featuring weapons, drugs or needles
- Using images featuring belly fat
- Using images/s of relatives of a celebrity who are not famous themselves
- Using mildly suggestive images or images featuring passionate or intimate kissing

Title - Title makes an exaggerated claim
This means that the title makes claims that might create the wrong user expectations or makes claims that are not appropriate for all the targeted users
How To Fix This
Amend the title so it matches realistic user expectations for all targeted users and accurately reflects the terms and conditions on the landing page. The landing page must have appropriate supporting statements/documentation for all claims made in titles about the product, service, or content. Once ready, resubmit the campaign ads.
Some common explanations why campaign ads get rejected for this reason include:
- Claiming or implying accreditation or endorsement in cases where the product or service does not have such accreditation or endorsement
- Stating that a product is ‘free’ without mentioning shipping or installation fees
Phrasing is everything. If the title is not phrased correctly it may unintentionally mislead users. Some common issues of phrasing are explained below:

- Using more than one word with uppercase lettering in the title

Amend the campaign to conform to our healthcare policies which can be found in our restricted content, products, and services guidelines

Landing Page - Landing page contains a noncompliant third party content recommendation platform
This means that there may be third party content recommendations being advertised on the landing page that are not compliant with our advertising policies. All content on the landing page, whether developed by you or others, must be compliant with Taboola’s advertising policies.
How To Fix This
Please work with the third party advertising partners to ensure compliance before submitting content to Taboola. Advertisements and other third party content on landing pages include, but are not limited to, display advertisements, page takeovers, content recommendation widgets, and native advertisements. Once amended, resubmit the campaign ads.
Here is some additional information to help you fix the issue:
- All advertisements and other third-party content must disclose that they are advertisements (if it is not otherwise obvious)
- Any content or links on the landing page that are sponsored by a third party must clearly and conspicuously be labeled as sponsored

Further information about landing page policies and third party advertisements can be found here.

Landing Page - Language mismatch or grammar issues within landing page
This means that there may be a user experience issue on the landing page where either more than one language is represented or the landing page seems to be unintelligible due to poor grammar, spelling, punctuation, or overall incoherence of the content.
Example: Your landing page content is in English but your website’s user interface is in Japanese.
Example: Your landing page content is in English but sidebar articles from your website are in Spanish.
Example: Your landing page content is in English but the header image includes Hindi.
Example: Your landing page content does not seem to make sense due to poor grammar or a poor grasp of the language.
How To Fix This
Check the following:
Create a new landing page for each language used, and ensure that the language is consistent throughout the funnel.
Ensure that the user interface language (navigational toolbars and menu options) corresponds to that of the content that you are promoting.
Ensure that all other content and links on the website are in the same language as the content that you are promoting.
Content on landing pages should be properly written in the appropriate language for the territory that the campaign targets and should read smoothly for a native speaker.
Once amended, resubmit your campaign ads.

Landing Page - Deceptive landing page practices
This means that at least one element on the landing page or the language of the landing page seems to misrepresent the product to the user. It can be as simple as phrasing the advertising accurately so that users don’t accidentally assume something about the product they didn’t intend.
Example: The language on the landing page suggests that users are guaranteed certain results when using the product
- "Use our referral service and you will reduce your insurance costs by 50%” - Prohibited
- “Use our referral service and find the option most suitable for you” - Permitted
Example: There is a countdown timer that suggests that the promotion is a limited time offer.
Example: Deceptive language
- "This product is free, get it now!” - Prohibited
- “This product is free, all you need to pay is for shipping. See shipping costs below” - Permitted
How To Fix This
Amend the landing page to ensure that all content is accurate, clear and transparent and resubmit the campaign ads.
Some common explanations why campaign ads get rejected for this reason include:
- Creating a false sense of urgency.
-
-
- Using a countdown timer
- Auto-updating timestamps
-
- Language that suggests the offer is ending when it isn’t
- Making product information and company details not clearly accessible to users before they are required to sign in or submit their personal information.
- Making false, misleading, or deceptive claims. There must be appropriate support for all statements made.
- Using inaccurate or deceptive images, including fake or altered images that could mislead the user.
- Hiding or obscuring information that is important to the user, like terms and conditions, company details and promotional information

General - Product is noncompliant in targeted regions
This means that the campaign ads seem to promote content, products, or services that don’t follow the policies for the geographical locations targeted by the campaign
Example: The campaign seems to promote gambling content in a country where gambling is not allowed under our Gambling and Gaming Policy.
How To Fix This
Make sure that the campaigns do not promote any content, product, or service that is illegal in the location the campaign is targeting. Review our restricted content, products, and services guidelines closely, and update the non-compliant component of the campaign and resubmit the campaign ads.

General - Prohibited Product or Service
This means that the campaign ad promotes a prohibited product or service according to Taboola’s policies. This applies to the titles, thumbnails, video creatives, and landing pages.
How To Fix This
Review our prohibited content, products, and services guidelines closely to ensure that no aspect of the campaign contains anything that we prohibit on the Taboola network. Amend the non-compliant component and resubmit the campaign.
Some common explanations why campaign ads get rejected for this reason include:
- Promoting something that seems to have a significant risk of being fraudulent or a scam that may harm users, or that is designed to enable illegal or dishonest behavior
- Promoting something that seems to make impossible or illegal financial claims, such as credit repair services
- Promoting something that seems to promise to diagnose, cure, prevent, or reverse any disease, condition, or illness
- Promoting something that violates intellectual property rights
- Promoting what seem to be counterfeit goods or heavily discounted luxury goods
- Promoting tobacco or recreational or illegal drugs. This includes e-cigarettes, vaporizers, rolling papers, syringes, or any related products or services
- Promoting weapons, guns or explosives
- Inciting hatred, or violence.
- Promoting the sale of people, endangered species, organs, or blood.
- Promoting sex products or services. This includes adult entertainment sites, escort services, casual sex dating sites, mail-order brides
- Promoting Gold IRA or penny stocks.

General - Political figure in item
Living political figures, candidates for election and family members of either, may not appear in the thumbnail (includes GIF’s and video stills), video creative, or landing page of an arbitrage campaign. Arbitrage in this context refers to an informative or entertainment campaign that is monetized through third party ads, usually in the form of a slideshow.
Publisher campaigns may, however, feature living political figures and their family members in a news ad, when relevant.
Example: A slideshow of past American presidential candidates that features the current president would be prohibited.
How To Fix This
Remove the living political figure from all components of the campaign and resubmit the campaign ad.

General - Broken URL
This means that there seems to be a technical issue with your destination URL or landing page. For example, your landing page did not load when clicked, so it was not able to be reviewed.
Example: When the review team looks at your landing page, they see a 404 error.
How To Fix This
Make sure that your destination URL and landing page are functioning properly. Then, update the URL of the campaign ad.

General - Language mismatch between creative and landing page
This means that there seems to be a mismatch between the language used in your title, thumbnail (includes GIF’s and video stills) and the language used in your landing page content. Alternatively, there seems to be a mismatch between the language used in your title and the language used in your thumbnail or video creative.
Example: You submitted a campaign that has French titles and a landing page that is in Portuguese.
Example: You submitted a campaign that has English titles and a thumbnail that shows text in Hindi.
How To Fix This
Create a new campaign and ensure that there is consistency in the language between your title (or thumbnail, GIF, or video creative, if applicable) and the content of your landing page.
To learn more about this rejection reason, click here.

General - Zero item: No items in campaign inventory
This means that your submitted campaign did not seem to have any campaign ads in it.
Example: You successfully set up a new campaign, but may not yet have added any ads.
Creating a campaign does not mean that there is content in it to run. The content that you want to run must be added as campaign ads. When setting up a new campaign, make sure to add campaign ads to the campaign inventory before submitting it. Each campaign ad should have a title, thumbnail image or video creative, and destination URL.
How To Fix This
Make sure to submit campaign ads to your campaign.
To learn how to fix and resubmit your campaign or campaign ad, click here.
General - Item does not align with initial campaign settings
This means that the newly added campaign ad(s) do not seem to match the existing campaign settings.
Example: The initial campaign ads link to one website or product but the new campaign ads link to a different website or product and need an alternate branding text.
Example: The initial campaign ads are about travel but the new campaign ads are about finance and need to be placed in an alternate category.
How To Fix
Create a new campaign for the ads that do not match the settings of the current campaign.
To learn more about branding text guidelines, click here.

Video Creative - Poor User Experience
This means the video creative seems to have technical or user experience issues that reduce the quality of the video. The video creative must play smoothly and must be high resolution, cropped well, not overly discolored, and must have minimum original dimensions of 1000px in length and 600px in height.
How To Fix This
Make sure that the video creative is compliant with our policies.
Some common explanations why campaign ads get rejected for this reason include:
- The video seems to be choppy or may not be playing smoothly. Try rendering the video to an alternate video format, and resubmit the campaign ad
- The video seems to loop in a way that does not make sense to the viewer. This may occur if the uploaded video extends past the length limitations allowed for video creatives
- The video seems to use overly disruptive tactics such as flashing colors, lights, or screens
- The video dimensions seem to be too low
- The video seems to use low-resolution footage. Do not stretch footage that falls short of the minimum dimension requirement in order to make it fit a video that is set to larger dimensions; this may reduce sections of the video resolution or distort sections of the video

Description does not conform to the campaign safety rating
This means that the description of the ad does not align with the current campaign safety rating (see below for examples).
How to Fix This
Three options
- Put the ads in a new campaign (recommended by Taboola)
- Fix the ads and resubmit them to the same campaign
- Change the existing campaign safety rating (not recommended)
The first option is to create a separate campaign for the lower safety ads. You can find out how to submit a campaign here (recommended by Taboola).
- Using exaggerated or sensationalized language
- Using gimmicky words or phrases

General - Campaign Submission Error: Broken landing page URL; no items in campaign
This means that there seems to be a technical issue with how the campaign was submitted, either:
- The campaign does not have any items in it, or
- The destination URL drives to a non-existent page or the wrong page
Example: A new campaign was successfully set up, but ads have not been added to it or after adding ads to the campaign they were deleted after the campaign was submitted for review.
Example: When the review team goes to the landing page, they see a ‘404 error’ message.
How To Fix This
- Check that there are ads in the campaign (Creating a campaign does not mean that there is content in it to run. The content that you want to run must be added as campaign ads. When setting up a new campaign, make sure to add campaign ads to the campaign inventory before submitting it. Each campaign ad should have a title, thumbnail image or video creative, and destination URL)
- Check that the destination URL and landing page are functioning properly and update the URL of the campaign ad
