Look-Alike Models are used to build larger audiences from a smaller audience to create reach for advertisers and find new users likely to be interested in your business because they resemble existing customers.
Use your CRM data to create lookalike audiences. You can upload either a customer list of hashed email addresses or mobile advertising IDs and Taboola’s predictive engine will find similar users that are more likely to convert based on the assumption that these users will be “like” your current customers in your database.

You create a custom audience in the Audience Page in backstage.
- In backstage left menu click on ‘Audiences’ then ‘create new lookalike audience’ where you can upload file
- Upload a CSV file with hashed emails or mobile advertising IDs of US customers
- Choose the hashing type or mobile advertising ID and Name the audience
- Click "OK"
- Files appear in the audiences table with "Processing" status
- After 2-3 days, the lookalike audience status will change to "Ready"
- When it's "ready", edit any campaign or create a new one to target the audience. In the 'Lookalike' tab of the 'Audience' section, you will see all your lookalike audiences.
- You can choose the similarity of the audience (Top 5% - Top 25%) that you want to target using slider functionality:
a. Top 5% are the top 5% of users that mostly resemble your seed file. This means higher performance, but lower scale.
b. Top 25% are the top 25% of users that mostly resemble your seed file. This means the threshold for similarity is lower, but the scale of users is much bigger.
c. We recommend starting with top 20% as a default. If you’re satisfied with the performance of the lookalike audience, continue to expand the audience to reach higher scale. Otherwise you can narrow your audience to achieve higher performance at the expense of scale.
- Once a campaign is targeting a lookalike audience, the status of the corresponding audience will change to "Active"
- CSV file with one column of hashed emails
- We accept hashed emails or mobile advertising IDs of US customers only
- Hashed Email: we’re compatible with the following:
- Email MD5
- Email SHA1
- Email SHA256
- Mobile Advertising IDs: we accept mobile advertising IDs from both iOS and Android devices:
- Mobile Advertising IDs on iOS devices are called "IDFAs"
- Mobile Advertising IDs on Android devices are called "AAIDs"
- U.S. Adults only: Your seed file should only contain users who are U.S. adults
- At least 7,500 records and no more than 750,000 records
- All emails should be lowercase before and after hashing
- File size should be no larger than 50 MB
